Description
Introduction Factors contributing to bell-miner-associated dieback (BMAD) are largely unresolved (Wardell-Johnson et al. 2005, this issue). However, we may provisionally accept that dieback is related to complex interactions between forest disturbance, changes in stand structure, absence of regular burning, development of a dense understorey, increase in foliar nutrients, infestation of tree crowns by a sap-sucking psyllid, and the aggressive colonisation of the forest by the bell miner (Jurskis 2005; Stone 2005; Turner 2005; Wardell-Johnson et al. 2005; and all this issue).
